Funding RFHC
Ravenswood Family Health Center is a non-profit community health
center. We receive money from:
- Government grants and reimbursements for services
- Charitable foundations
- Contributions from individuals and the private sector
- Fees collected from patients and their insurers
RFHC receives a Bureau of Primary
Health Care grant for the uninsured which accounts for
23% of income; 46% comes from third-party public health insurance
reimbursements, and the balance of 31% is raised by grants and donations.
Uninsured patients pay a sliding scale fee, based on their
household income. We collect approximately $200,000 a year or 2%
of RFHC income from these fees.
The Challenge
Community health centers are being squeezed between the rising number of uninsured workers, and declining government health coverage reimbursements. Ravenswood is no exception. We have seen an increase of 45% in the number of patients who depend on us for care. Meanwhile, reimbursements are declining. There is a growing gap between the cost of the care we provide and the payment we receive for that care.
