Pediatric Integrated Behavioral Health Services

Our Integrated Behavioral Health Services program offers counseling and parenting support for our pediatric patients and their parents or caretakers.

At RFHC we see families that are dealing with multiple sources of stress that can lead to conflict or crises and undermine the security and stability of the home.

Our pediatric providers see the effects in the behavior of children. Such cases are referred to IBHS for follow-up.

  • Social Services: Our Licensed Clinical Social Worker assesses, counsels and refers caretakers to a network of resources to help stabilize a family in crisis and ensure appropriate care and the protection of children. The social worker is the link to counseling and other community resources.
  • Counseling: When a pediatric provider sees signs of emotional trauma that can manifest in hyperactivity, poor school performance, self-injury or emotional dissociation, the child may be referred for assessment to our child psychiatrist or both caretaker and child are referred to the clinical psychologist or social worker for follow-up.
  • Support for victims of domestic violence: Domestic violence is unfortunately a common problem affecting the safety and security of children. If the victim is able to disclose his/her fears he/she can then be linked to Communities Overcoming Realtionship Abuse (CORA), a nonprofit that partners with RFHC to provide a domestic violence support and if there is a serious risk, emergency and transitional housing.

Note: Suspected cases of child abuse are immediately referred directly to San Mateo County Child Protective Services (CPS).
