Staff worked nonstop to open Belle Haven Clinic on schedule September 5th, two weeks after the County transferred the clinic to RFHC. When the door opened that day, one of the first patients to arrive was a ten-day old baby in the arms of his mother. It was fitting start for a new beginning.

Located between a soccer field and the Onetta Harris Senior Center, it’s a very appealing setting for a clinic. “It’s small and personal, said Erika Simpson, the Clinic Coordinator, “and patients know our staff by name. We’ve gained their trust. One patient decorated our lobby with three ceramic plaques she made and crocheted shawls for several of the staff.”

“Many patients are seniors,” says the primary clinician, Margaret Allen, Physician Assistant. “Many of them have serious health problems and need a lot of case management. About 40% to 50% have hypertension and diabetes; many are very overweight. Fifteen of my patients have cancer and require careful oversight. It’s really quite challenging but very satisfying too.”
